Montana Snowbowl Ski Resort does a lot of accurate self-advertising just with its name. The deep, powdery bowls at this premiere Montana Rockies resort are the highlight, but definitely not the only draw.

Go deep in the trees at Montana Snowbowl.

Just outside of the northwest Montana city of Missoula, this ski resort has 2,600 feet of vertical drop and yet, trails for the whole family. Snowbowl’s 42 marked trails are divided into 20% beginner, 40% intermediate and 40% expert terrain. The longest run will tire out your legs at three miles long.
Snowbowl slopes are serviced by two high-capacity double lifts and two handle tows. The base elevation at the resort is 5,000 feet and the summit reaches up to 7,600 feet above sea level. Average snowfall is a generous 300 inches.
The resort is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. seasonally. A Shuttle bus run between Missoula’s Town Pump station and the Snowbowl parking lot on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. It leaves town at 8:45 a.m. and returns at 4:15 p.m.
In Missoula, just 12 southeast of Montana Snowbowl, you’ll be able to find a wide array of Montana accommodations to suit whatever budget you’re working with.
Missoula International Airport is reachable by the airlines: Delta, Horizon Air, United and Northwest. Car rentals are available from the aiport. To get to the resort, take I-90’s Reserve Street Exit (Exit 101), go north on Grant Creek Road and then take a left onto Snowbowl Road.
In the summer, the mountain resort still bustles with activity. Chair lifts and trails are open for extreme mountain biking. Snowbowl even hosts a bike jam that includes downhill biking.
The mountain also has something called “Diggler.” It’s a “mountain scooter”: a of cross between a bike and a snowboard. It was originally designed to “tackle terrain like a mountain bike and carve turns like a board or a ski.”
Try one out at Snowbowl in the summer and see for yourself!
Basing your Montana vacation out of the Missoula area puts you right near all the action. The skiing and snowboarding at Snowbowl is close by, and the University of Montana in Missoula brings a lot of art, music, theatre and sports to the area to enjoy.
The city itself is beautiful, famous for its lush forests and seasonal greenery. And its no wonder, Missoula is situated where five mountain valleys converge, taking the best from all of them.
Make your next vacation here in the heart of the northern Rocky Mountains and you won’t be disappointed!
