Renting in Banff during Summer

Banff National Park, Alberta

I know what you are thinking; we are still in the depths of beautiful icy winter – who can think about summer. Well I have been inspired walking around Banff today. The temperature does not have that irritating minus sign in front of it and people are taking advantage. Though foolish, I have been walking around, not just without my sexy thermals, but in a t-shirt. It is a strange feeling of nostalgia mixed with excitement about the summer to come. Don’t get me wrong, I love the snow and all the activities that come with it in the Rockies but when the ice eventually melts – it’s a whole new world.

Cycling the Rockies' is a great way to spend a family holiday.

If you have come ill equipped to the Rockies, there is no need to worry. There are tons of shops that are here to provide you with everything you might need. One such shop is Backtrax. During winter, it takes care of all your skiing / snow boarding / ice climbing needs but come summer, it’s a whole different ball game. They offer guided mountain bike tours in the Canadian Rockies which includes professional guides, bicycle rentals, helmets, locks and the all important pant straps. No I don’t really know what that is either but it certainly sounds appealing!
You can rent a bike independently too for very affordable prices. There are so many great roads to cycle around Banff. It is a great choice for families too. My earliest memory is of being on the back of my Dads bike… before he crashed into a tree. Aside from cycling, you can rent pretty much anything in Backtrax bar a human person. Tents, sleeping bags, day back, and rain suit – you name it. I have never been able to decide which season I prefer more in Banff – summer or winter. Maybe it is because summer is that bit shorter that it can be more exciting. Make sure to take advantage of the dozens of activities on offer either way!
