Best Breakfast in Canmore – Chez Francois

Canmore, Alberta

Usually I stop into Tim Horton’s on the way from Banff to Canmore. I wouldn’t call myself a regimented man but old Timmy’s has taken a hold of my heart. However, a local friend insisted I try something new and improved. Chez Francois is very easy to find. It is on the Bow Valley Trail, next door to the Econo Lodge and just on the outskirts of town. There is an old fashioned, homely sort of feel to the place and the staff is immediately welcoming. As soon as you enter the door, you are relaxed as you just can’t be in Banff and when the menus are handed out, the most stressful part is choosing.

The Three Sisters Mountain Peaks are in plain view from Chez Francois.

Ignoring the jeers of my fellow breakfast eaters, I went for the Ladies’ Combo which is one back bacon, egg Benedict and two raspberry crepes. It also comes with fresh fruit and home style pancakes. Sure, it is a little girly for a manly man like me…but it’s bloody delicious. Served until 2pm and only $13.95, you are onto the kind of bargain that you might struggle to find elsewhere. The coffee is always refilled before you can even get near to the bottom.
Another perk about the Chez Francois in Canmore is the views. Early in the morning, the roads are quiet and all you can see from the big bright windows is big snow capped mountains. It is a truly peaceful place to eat a very filling (and womanly) delicious breakfast. The closer it gets to summer, the better Canmore seems to get. It has a lot to offer and unlike Banff seems to be constantly changing. If you are making the trip to Banff National Park, don’t leave without a trip to Canmore and where better (besides Tim Horton’s!) to start the day than Chez Francois.
