Icicles can be so fleeting. These had grown over several days, but melted completely away just a few hours after I took this photo.
This formation caught my eye as I drove along the Crystal River, south of Redstone, Colorado. I passed them on a couple evenings after work, but didn’t take this photo until I had a day off and could get there in the daylight. It was pretty cloudy, so the light wasn’t too bright. Also, the rocks and snow made for a monochromatic scene, and that’s one reason I chose to produce this image in black and white.
