Kananaskis Country, Alberta

It took me months to ‘discover’ Kananaskis. Though Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise grab the most press attention, Kananaskis hasn’t really had its chance to shine since it was host to the winter Olympics in 1988. Yes, it is slightly off the beaten track but man is it beautiful. You can either make the turn off at the motorway at the Stoney Nakoda Casino or take the even more scenic route from Canmore. Once you are in Kananaskis country, you are surrounded by lush and vast nature and wildlife. Right in the heart you will find one of the most peaceful hotels in the Rockies – The Delta Kananaskis.

Kananaskis is a real hidden gem in the Rockies.

Keep in mind that Kananaskis is only about a 40 minute drive from Banff or Calgary and yet it offers something extremely different. It is tucked away in the midst of winding roads and there is a top class ski hill as well as an internationally renowned golf course. If you look at the Delta from above, it looks like a celebrity’s secret hideaway mansion delicately placed amongst surrounding forests. The interior does even more to keep this image constant with luxurious lobby and equally luxurious bedrooms. You are only a short hop from some of the Rockies’ best skiing and snow-shoeing in winter and hiking and biking in summer.
Kananaskis is the perfect base for those who want to explore the Canadian Rockies but from a peaceful and natural surrounding. The Delta Kananaskis is the perfect place to do this. It also has every amenity and more you have come to expect from top hotels such as spa, swimming pool, bars, restaurants and extremely friendly staff.
