BANFF NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA—Canmore is really growing as a tourist destination. Considering the majority of people drive right past this beautiful town on the way to Banff National Park, it really should have been on the map long back. Though only 5 minutes outside the National Park gates, it differs from Banff in many ways, it is not as touristy and it has no restrictions on its developments like Banff has. What this means is that it is cheaper to stay, there is a better variety of shops and restaurants and also that there are some unique and great coffee shops.
Beamers falls into this category. It has two locations (1702 Bow Valley Trail and 7th and Main). It is the kind of cafe that draws you in with the smell of roasting beans and a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Due to a severe caffeine addiction, I have tasted a latte in pretty much every coffee shop in Banff, Canmore and Jasper and along with Wildflour in Banff, Beamer’s servers up the meanest latte. Presented beautifully, it has a taste to match.
Running since 1994, the loyal locals and visitors have kept this place on top of its game. If you ask any Canmore local where they want to meet for coffee, be assured that Starbucks will not be top of the list. As a destination, Canmore is a real hidden gem of the Canadian Rockies and as a coffee shop; Beamer’s is the best of the Bow Valley!
