LAKE LOUISE, ALBERTA—I used to think that spring skiing was a chance to only wear two thermal layers. This notion has been knocked on its head with temperatures around Banff and Lake Louise above +20 degrees Celsius and its still only mid April. Some people complain that with the increased warmth comes lesser quality snow. Though the snow is obviously not as good as it would be mid winter, there is still a tremendous base in Lake Louise. It is a great day skiing or snowboarding under bluebird skies, everybody is wearing little more than a t-shirt and as usual Lake Louise puts on a great show to keep the atmosphere pumping.

There is nothing like a spring bluebird day skiing in Lake Louise.

When it comes to entertainment and spring skiing, Lake Louise is the local’s favourite. Skiers and snowboarders are joined by families and sun bakers who drive up for the day to watch people coming down the big last slope and enjoy a beer. The Lake Louise ski area is king when it comes to entertainment and yesterday was certainly no let down. Calgary band – The Dudes played a superb show in the sun for the packed out bar. As you enter the park for a few final jumps before hitting the bar for some après ski, you can already hear the lively music.

Lake Louise is such a big ski hill that you never feel even in the slightest bit crowded. The scenery is comfortably the best in the Rockies and you can take some of the best photos to make friends envious and curious at why you are wearing only a shirt on top of a snowy mountain. The runs have all been excellently taken care of and there are no queues for any lifts or gondolas. I guarantee that a day out in Lake Louise in spring will be one of the best you will have all year. The season is fast coming to a close though so hurry up! See you on the slopes.
