When this gondola reaches the top at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, you'll be treated to vast stretches of pristine powder to play in during your ski vacation in the Canadian Rockies.

BANFF, Alberta – Winter in the mountains means skiing, and the Canadian Rockies are certainly no exception.

In fact, the skiing in Banff National Park and its surroundings is among the best to be found anywhere. When the Winter Olympics came to Calgary in 1988, the nordic events were held in Canmore. The Nordic Center built for those Games still stands today.

Whether you’re a novice to the area or have been skiing these slopes for years, we offer some special tours that we hope will bring you back to these mountains time and again for vacation experiences you will never forget.

The Powder Express tour at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is a great place to start. The resort has a prime location and features big, open bowls and very long, groomed runs, making it quite accessible for novice skiers; but it also boasts steep chutes and tree-lined runs for the more experienced and adventurous.

The tour is a marvelous day trip from either Banff or Lake Louise. If you’re staying in Banff, you can take a bus at 6:45 a.m. or one at 7:20 a.m. The tour’s bus departs Lake Louise at 8 a.m. You’ll be taken through Yoho National Park until you reach Kicking Horse, in time for an early gondola ride up to the top for a full day of skiing. Also, you’ll have the chance to eat lunch at the Eagle’s Eye, Canada’s highest restaurant, featuring not only great food but unsurpassed scenery.

You are responsible for your own ski equipment, and please remember to dress appropriately, including hats, gloves and goggles.

Also, there are some restrictions we have to follow on this tour. Pick-up is from certain hotels only in Banff and Lake Louise; please enquire to be sure you’re either staying at one of them or know where the nearest pickup point is. Also, we must book at least 10 people for each tour.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll look at some heli-skiing tours on offer, as well as other winter adventures. But if all you want is a full day of fresh snow and lots of runs, the Powder Express tour at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is the one for you. Whether you’re a beginner or have been hitting the slopes for years, whether you’re a regular visitor to the Canadian Rockies or are coming to see it for the very first time, we think you’ll have a wonderful adventure.
