Salmo Ski Area is a small ski hill in the West Kootenay region of southeast British Columbia. It’s a friendly volunteer-run ski hill with great night skiing on nicely groomed trails.
Moguls, steep spots, pristine powder, a bunny hill and racing courses can also be found here. There is one thing you can’t find: a long lift line. Salmo has virtually no wait time to get up the mountain!
Salmo’s spot in the Canadian Rockies grants it 120 inches (305 cm) of annual snow. The base of the mountain sits at 2,100 feet (440 m) and the summit reaches 3,100 feet (945 m) for an overall vertical drop of 1,120 feet (340 m).
The four trails at Salmo are serviced by a T-Bar and a handle tow. Snowboarders and skiers alike can have hours of fun in the ski area’s terrain park with half pipe.
The area’s normal winter hours run Saturday-Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The terrain is also open for night skiing Monday-Thursday from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Ski and snowboard rentals and lessons are available at the base. Ask about their cross-country trails as well!
To reach Salmo Ski Area, head .5 km south of the village, 28 miles (45 km) southeast of Castlegar or 31 miles (50 km) south of Nelson.
