Canmore Area Golf Courses: Stewart Creek

The three sisters peaks are easily visible from the Canmore area.

This Gary Browning-designed course emphasizes harmony with the Canadian Rockies nature surrounding it.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy. The par-72 layout totals 7,195 yards and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting to play in the area.

But Browning, a native of the Canmore area, wanted the course to be more than just a challenge. He wanted it to be an experience, carefully planning each hole to fit perfectly in with the scenery. It’s a philosophy he put into all of his courses, and Stewart Creek is a beautiful example of what such sensitivity can accomplish.

You’ll be dazzled by the 360-degree mountain views, and keep an eye out for the abandoned mine shafts and abundant wildlife. The presence of Stewart Creek itself is no small attraction … though hopefully only for your eyes, not your golf ball!

In fact, Stewart Creek Golf Course was such a success that Golf Digest magazine called it the best new course in western Canada in 2002 and gave it 4 and a half stars in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
