Having your wedding in the Canadian Rockies allows your family and friends to get together for your big day and have some fun while they’re at it.

Destinations include Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise and Jasper, all of which offer plenty of outdoor activities and breathtaking natural landscapes.

Your two extended families can have fun while getting acquainted with unforgettable excursions like whitewater rafting, skiing, hiking, mountain biking and more! Talk about bonding experiences!

The wedding itself can be low key and simply beautiful in a field of wildflowers, or take place at an extravagant mountain resort with every kind of amenity you can imagine.

Lakeside cabins, hotels, traditional log-constructed lodges and quaint bed and breakfasts will host you and your wedding party during your stay in the Canadian Rockies.

Picture this: start your festivities with a casual barbeque or dinner the night your guests arrive. The next day they can choose to either play a relaxing round of golf or to get their adrenaline pumping with a trip down the river rapids in the area. Later that day (or the next) everyone cleans up and heads to the wedding and reception in any number of picturesque sites. The next day, have a farewell brunch and head to the honeymoon! Your guests can stick around as long as they like or head home. Its up to them how long they want to have fun in this beautiful area!

You could even have all of this happen over the space of a weekend. In order to personalize and organize your trip to its maximum, you may want to contact a wedding planner in the area.

Sharon Auld is a wedding planner and owner of Naturally Chic, a recommended company in the Canadian Rockies. Two places that make for beautiful weekend wedding spots are the Emerald Lake Lodge or the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Both have plenty of area activities to entertain the wedding party and aren’t overly expensive.

The Emerald Lake Lodge would be a good choice for those that like the sounds of a “camping style” wedding. Everyone will love the barbeques, canoe rides and campfire with S’mores!

If you’re planning to tie the knot in the winter, Auld suggests that you look into the Lake Louise Ice Castle. “Activities could include skating on the frozen lake, sleigh rides, skiing and a hot chocolate/espresso bar at your reception,” she explained.

Another great option, summer or winter is the Fairmont Banff Springs, an elegant mountain castle. Area attractions include golfing, fine dining and many luxurious spas.

No matter what you choose, a wedding in the rugged natural beauty of the Canadian Rockies will likely please everyone that attends!

It’s good to remember that standard wedding etiquette does not necessitate that the couple pay for all the activities. It’s common for various family members to host an activity!

Oftentimes it’s even enough to arrange the activities or provide information on activities that your guests can partake in. They can then do what they like and what they can afford, on an individual basis.

Most will treat your wedding as a mini-vacation or getaway weekend and they’ll appreciate having something to do. And with such abundant nature, there are lots of activities like nature walks and hikes that don’t cost anything!

Auld suggests to “provide plenty of activities that appeal to all your guests young and old.” She also insists that you don’t over-schedule your guests’ itineraries. “It’s important to provide down times for your guests so they can explore the area or just relax in their hotel room. There’s really no better way to show your guests how much you care about them then by spending quality time with them. The immense value of a weekend wedding is that everyone feels appreciated and valued,” she said.

With so many great choices, you can be sure that your wedding will be personal, unique and unforgettable for everyone who attends!
