About Bicycle Tour of Colorado

The Bicycle Tour of Colorado has been an active part of people’s summer vacations for the past 21 years. The Tour is run and operated by the Powell Family of Morrison and prides itself on being a family-run enterprise.

The Powell family started the BTC in 1994. They have completed over 8,300 miles and visited over 50 towns in Colorado while even venturing to Chama in New Mexico and Laramie and Annual Ride, 2015 27th with registration day on June 20th. The route Saratoga in Wyoming. The tour has had over 30,000 cycling participants and over 1,200 volunteers during the past 21 years.

The BTC was conceived when Kent Powell, an avid cyclist, noticed that Ride the Rockies, being a lottery, was turning away many cyclists that wanted to enjoy a bike tour through the Rockies and decided there was enough room for another tour in Colorado.

“Even though there is such a competitive culture with cycling in Colorado, BTC’s goal is to get people to fall in love with Colorado’s beautiful scenery while developing deep connections with fellow enthusiasts,” said Kent Powell, Director of the BTC.

The BTC has provided the opportunity for at least 5 couples to meet and marry. There have also been many couples that have taken their anniversary and honeymoons on the tour. A volunteer also married a cyclist she met while working on the tour. Cleary there is room for making lasting friendships and connections,” said Alisha Powell, Marketing Coordinator. The Tour is also active in supporting non-profits such as Mile Down Syndrome Association, Make a Wish Foundation, Yes to Youth, Rocky Mountain PBS & Adaptive Adventures.
