Colorado fishing is well-known by anglers all over the U.S. There are more than 80 species of fish in the state, including excellent populations of trout, much sought after by Colorado fly fishers on their vacations. Fishing in Colorado for over 80 local species is a state highlight, but it’s important to know the rules.

Must have fishing license (16+)
Any fisherman over 16 years of age must have a fishing license. Prices vary and licenses are valid for one day, five day or year round.

Check Daily Bag and Possession Limit
There are limits on the number of trout, salmon and bass a fisher can catch per day. Be sure to know the limitations on the different fish you reel in.

Each county has its own specifics
Fishing is open to all year round in Colorado, but each state county has its own guidelines. Get to know the local protocol before casting.

Colorado’s Division of Wildlife has detailed online brochures to view. Do your research to make your fishing in Colorado’s streams, lakes and reservoirs an enjoyable experience.

Fishing licenses are available for 1 day, 5 day, or annual fishing. Licenses can be purchased at over 850 license agents across the state. Fishing licenses purchased through the Internet or Telephone will should reach you by mail within 10 days.

With over 152 lakes and reservoirs totaling more than 150,000 acres of water.
That doesn’t even include our six major rivers which are the Colorado River, the North Platte, the South Platte, the Arkansas, the Republican and the Rio Grande rivers along with all the streams that feed them.
Fishing in Colorado means an opportunity and a chance to catch some 80 species of both warm- and cold-water fish. You can fish for the famed rainbow trout in a cool Rocky Mountain stream or troll for walleye on a sunny plains reservoir. There are 6,000 miles of streams and more than 2,000 lakes and reservoirs to choose from.
