Just outside of northern British Columbia’s biggest town, Prince George, you’ll find Tabor Mountain Ski Resort.

Thanks to its location close to several Canadian Rockies mountain ranges by the Pacific Ocean, Tabor Mountain gets heaps of powder. No need for snow guns here!

The ski area has a vertical rise of more than 800 feet (244 m). At its base, Tabor Mountain sits at 1,800 feet (549 m). At the summit it reaches 2,607 feet (795 m).

The skiable acres at the resort totals 180, with 13 runs, which are classified as 25% beginner, 50% intermediate and 25% advanced. The terrain includes a terrain park most years, with fun features like boxes, rails and jumps. The longest trail measures almost 2 miles long (3.21 km).

The trails are serviced by a triple chair and a handle tow, which have a capacity of 1,450 skiers per hour. No lines!

Lessons at Tabor Mountain are given by qualified instructors, all with a minimum of Level 1 CASI or CSIA Instructor Certification. It is recommended to book lessons at least 2 days in advance, as classes may fill and they might be able to accommodate drop-ins.

Always check with Tabor Mountain before heading up to ski, as the schedule changes. Before the holidays they usually only operate on the weekends, then operate on a 5-day a week schedule with some exceptions (like spring break).

Tabor Mountain does have night skiing, usually starting in January after the holidays. Check with them for the schedule, in past years it has been Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9:30 p.m., but is subject to change.

Half days start at noon. Seniors (65 and up) ski free every day! The restaurant, rental shop and ticket counter all take Visa, Master Card and Interac cards.

While it depends on each particular year’s snowfall, Tabor Mountain is usually opens from late November to early April.

To get to Tabor Mountain, just head 12 miles (20 km) east of Prince George. From downtown, you’ll at the slopes in 15 minutes!
