Sunlight Mountain Resort is located on Compass Mountain in the Elk Mountain Range of the Rocky Mountains. The closest town is Glenwood Springs, Colorado, which has lots of cozy accommodations just ten miles away.

The atmosphere at Sunlight is unpretentious, thanks to the resort’s small-town roots. You’ll appreciate the laid-back attitude and family-friendliness when you visit.

Ski Sunlight if only for beautiful views of Mount Sopris and the surrounding Colorado Rockies.

This affordable ski area has hundreds of acres of easy greens (20%), fun blue intermediate runs (55%) and even a few black diamond extreme runs (25%). The base elevation is 7,885 feet and the peak is at 9,895, for a vertical drop of over 2,000 feet.

Extreme terrain includes mogul fields, steeps and glades, as well as a park with lots of features. The terrain park at Sunlight even has a half pipe for those ready to try catching some air.

The resort has three ski lifts and 67 trails overall. Sunlight has snowmaking capability on 12% of its terrain.

The ski school at Sunlight has a Super Tots program, which families return to year after year. The program includes a two-hour lesson, equipment rental, lunch and childcare. Indoor childcare is also available for kids aged 18 months to six-years-old.

An average of 250 inches of snow falls per year on the 470 skiable acres at Sunlight, thanks to its location in the White River National Forest. From the ridge tops you can even see the Flattops on some days.

The resort is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. Their half-day rates begin at noon.

Off the slopes, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing is a great way to bask in the beauty of the area. Sunlight has a Nordic Center that offers almost 30 miles of groomed trails, broken into beginner, intermediate and advanced trails that snake their way up the high valley between Sunlight Mountain and the 10,300-foot Williams Peak.

Getting to Sunlight is easy. Its located just off Interstate 70. To reach Sunlight Mountain Resort from Denver, travel I-70 west for 157 miles. From Grand Junction, head east for 89 miles on I-70. The closest airport is Aspen’s, just 30 miles (45 minutes) southeast of Sunlight.
