Some of Montana’s best slopes can be found here at the poetically named Moonlight Basin. These trails include long, groomed runs, open bowls and heart-thumping chutes.

Go steep and deep on Moonlight Basin's off-piste terrain.

Stay at this Big Sky, Montana resort to enjoy the truly awesome scenery and ski-on/ski-off convenience. Buy a “Lone Peak” lift ticket to ride at both Moonlight Basin and Big Sky Resort, where you’ll be able to ski over 5,500 acres, known as “The Biggest Skiing in America.”

Spa services, delicious restaurants and summer activities, like golfing at their Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, take place on the resort as well as in the nearby city of Big Sky, Montana.

The ski resort began in 1993, when the owners purchased the logging-scarred property in the Rocky Mountains. Since then, they have developed one of the best ski resorts in the Montana Rockies, all while restoring and revitalize the area. They even hired environmental protection experts to help them design the trails to make their visibility minimal from across the valley.

At Moonlight alone there are 92 marked trails, 19% of which are beginner, 27% are intermediate and 54% are expert. The slopes are serviced by eight chair lifts (one six-person lift, three quads, one triple, two doubles and one kids conveyor).

Snowboarders and skiers alike can play on the two terrain parks at Moonlight Basin, or test their nerve on the area’s steep, off-piste terrain.

The lodge and base are located at 7,000 feet and the summit reaches 11,166 feet. That’s a vertical drop of over 4,150 feet! The altitude together with the gigantic average annual snowfall of 400+ inches pretty much guarantee great conditions, not to mention the birds eye view from the top!

Moonlight Basin is on Highway 64, just off of Highway 191. It is about 50 miles south of Bozeman, Montana. Get to Bozeman via Delta/SkyWest, Horizon/Alaska, United, Northwest or Frontier airlines. Shuttles to Moonlight Basin Ski Area meet most flights. You can also rent a car or take a taxi to arrive.
